On June 5, 1998, Dave Matthews Band crossed a monumental threshold, taking the stage at Foxboro Stadium for their first-ever headlining stadium concert. In front of a sold-out crowd of over 46,000 fans, and broadcast live to millions on VH1’s Opening Night Live, the band delivered an absolute masterclass in live energy during the absolute peak of the Before These Crowded Streets era.
The legendary evening kicked off with a rare LeRoi Moore solo leading into a fiery, seamless transition from “Pantala Naga Pampa” into “Rapunzel.” This historic show marked the live debut of keyboardist Butch Taylor and featured an elite lineup of guests, including Béla Fleck, Big Voice Jack, and the Lovely Ladies. From the haunting intensity of “The Last Stop” and “The Dreaming Tree” to crowd-shaking versions of “#36” and “Crush,” the setlist is a flawless time capsule of the band at their creative zenith.
